Travellers can look forward to no longer having to present boarding passes at Zayed International Airport in Abu Dhabi, from as soon as next year.
Airports across the globe are increasingly introducing new digital technologies to enable smooth and effective processes.
Thus improving the experience for passengers while also enhancing safety and security.
ABU DHABI AIRPORT
Passengers using Abu Dhabi Airport can expect more convenient and streamlined processing next year.
The airport’s new biometrics infrastructure is expected to be operating by 2025.
This means passengers at Abu Dhabi’s Zayed International Airport might simply only have to use facial recognition to check in for their flights.

SMART TRAVEL PROJECT
According to a statement from local government, Abu Dhabi Airports is developing a “Smart Travel” project.
This involves rolling out biometric authentification artificial intelligence (AI) into all security checkpoints at the airport by 2025.
The project will use the databases of the United Arab Emirates’ Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security to automatically authenticate travellers.
BIOMETRIC SYSTEMS
In fact, Abu Dhabi’s national carrier, Etihad Airways, already has biometric systems in place.
This means passengers will not need boarding passes to board Etihad’s flights.
These systems use facial recognition before boarding. They also assist with self-service baggage delivery and traveller check-ins.
Euronews reports the technology is also being implemented for five additional airlines at check-in and boarding gates.

SPEEDY PROCESSING AT ABU DHABI AIRPORT
The new infrastructure indeed has definite benefits for airports and airlines.
These new technologies mean it will take roughly seven seconds from the 25 at regular kiosks to go through the entire ticket and travel document verification process.
The project will enhance airline performance by eliminating the need for expensive infrastructure expansions and effectively detecting fraud and forgery in identification documents, a statement by Abu Dhabi Airports said.
