Cape Town’s President Hotel now holds esteemed Green Key certification for sustainability.
According to Tourism Update, The President Hotel in Cape Town has earned globally recognised Green Key certification.
This is certainly a drawcard for guests, who prefer to stay at more sustainable hotel properties.
SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS
The President Hotel in Bantry Bay now joins a small collection of sustainable hotels in sub-Saharan Africa.
Green Key certification represents a commitment to compliance with the strict criteria set by the Foundation for Environmental Education.
This indeed underscores the project’s dedication to sustainable and responsible operations that align with the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals.
PILLARS OF SUSTAINABILITY
The pillars of sustainability include environmental impacts, cultural impacts and socio-economic impacts.
Key achievements at The President Hotel include an established recycling programme that reduces landfill waste, energy-efficient LED lighting and water-efficient fixtures.
The hotel has also eliminated single-use plastics, opting for plant-based materials water bottles and refillable glass bottles in guest rooms and conference spaces.
Moreover, team members undergo comprehensive training and actively promote eco-friendly practices to guests such as recommending scenic walks, the on-site bicycle service and nearby hiking trails.
SUSTAINABLE DINING AT THE PRESIDENT HOTEL
Furthermore, guests can enjoy sustainable dining options at the President Hotel.
This includes SASSI-accredited seafood and a range of vegan and vegetarian dishes at the Botany Café and other outlets.
The culinary team, supported by an on-site vegetable garden and micro herb project, takes pride in serving freshly harvested, homegrown ingredients.

The Crown reports that sustainability initiatives at The President Hotel also extend to guest participation.
The #StayGreen programme encourages guests to conserve resources through an optional linen and towel reuse programme.
