Boeing predicts that commercial aircraft fleets in Africa will more than double by 2043, driven by demand for single-aisle aircraft.
American aircraft manufacturer, Boeing, predicts a demand over the next 20 years for 1 170 new airplanes in Africa.
This figure highlights the region’s potential for growth in aviation. Furthermore, Boeing believes that over 70% of projected aircraft deliveries will be single-aisle planes.
BOEING: “GROWTH IN AVIATION IN AFRICA”
As Africa’s young and growing population seeks new opportunities to travel, the continent’s commercial airplane fleet is projected to more than double by 2043, according to Boeing’s 2024 Commercial Market Outlook (CMO).
According to the CMO, passenger air traffic in Africa will increase by 6.4% annually.
This will more than triple the region’s air traffic by 2043.

AFRICA: THIRD HIGHEST GROWTH REGION
This growth rate ranks Africa as the third highest among the ten regions tracked by Boeing.
“As demand for air travel rises, African airlines will need more single-aisle airplanes to efficiently serve many routes in the continent’s largest aviation markets, including Europe, the Middle East and within Africa,” said Shahab Matin, Boeing’s Managing Director of Commercial Marketing for Middle East and Africa.
DEMAND FOR SINGLE-AISLE AIRCRAFT
Deliveries of more than 800 new single-aisle jets will account for most of this projected growth.
This is predicted by the company’s long-term demand forecast for commercial airplanes and services.

BOEING BUILDS ON LONGSTANDING PARTNERSHIPS IN AFRICA
Data shows that around two-thirds of the carriers in Africa currently operate aircraft produced by Boeing.
The company has established a significant presence in Africa over the last 80 years.
“This growth will build on Boeing’s nearly eight decades of partnership with African carriers, as more than 60 airlines currently operate around 500 Boeing airplanes.” Matin said.
BOEING’S COMMERCIAL MARKET OUTLOOK
The aircraft manufacturer has published the CMO annually since 1961.
As the longest-running forecast of its kind, the CMO is regarded as the most comprehensive analysis of the commercial aviation industry.
