South African Airways will operate a new route in just over a week. The airline will resume flights to Dar es Salaam.
The airline will operate scheduled flights between Johannesburg and Tanzania’s economic hub, Dar es Salaam, from 20 January 2025.
South African Airways is, however, not the only airline operating flights on this route.
Airlink and Air Tanzania also offer direct services between these cities.
DAR ES SALAAM FLIGHT TIMINGS
South African Airways will offer a daily rotation between OR Tambo International Airport (Johannesburg) and Julius Nyerere International Airport (Dar es Salaam).
Moreover, the scheduled times for this service will allow for optimal aircraft use as SAA will operate these flights overnight.
The aircraft will be back in Johannesburg by early morning, thus enabling it to be used on other routes during the day.
FLIGHT SCHEDULE
SA 188 will depart from Johannesburg at 22.00 and arrive in Dar es Salaam at 02.30 (the next day).
SA 189 will depart from Dar es Salaam at 05.10 and arrive in Johannesburg at 07.55 (the same day).
The airline will offer daily flights on this route.
South African Airways will service the route with an Airbus A320 aircraft, which can seat up to 138 passengers in a two-class cabin configuration.
Economy Class will offer 114 seats while 24 seats will be available in Business Class.
SOUTH AFRICAN AIRWAYS ROUTE NETWORK
The airline, which celebrated its 90th anniversary last year, is cautiously introducing new routes.
Within South Africa, it flies to Johannesburg, Durban, Cape Town and Port Elizabeth.
South African Airways also operates scheduled flights to various destinations on the African continent and the Indian Ocean island of Mauritius.
The carrier has just two intercontinental routes at this stage.
SAA relaunched flights to Sao Paulo, Brazil (in October 2023) and then it added Perth, Australia to its route network in April 2024.
