Emirates Airlines, the world’s largest international airline has decided to deploy another Airbus A380 on its Johannesburg route.
The move is testament to the fact that the airline intends to increase capacity on the route, to enable it to carry more passengers and cargo.
AIRBUS A380 ON EMIRATES JOHANNESBURG ROUTE
As of 1 September 2024, Emirates will operate two of its daily frequencies on this route with an Airbus A380-800 aircraft.
In fact, Emirates operates this route three times a day.
Just one frequency was operated with an Airbus A380 while the other two were with Boeing 777 aircraft.
Thus, only the third frequency will still be operated with a Boeing 777-300ER aircraft seating 360 passengers.
JOHANNESBURG FLIGHTS
EK 761 departs Dubai at 04.05, arriving in Johannesburg at 10.15.
The A380 aircraft offers 489 seats. The cabin features 14 first class seats, 76 in business class and 399 economy class seats.
EK 763 departs Dubai at 09.55, arriving in Johannesburg at 16.15.
The A380 aircraft offers 491 seats. The cabin features 14 first class seats, 76 in business class and 401 economy class seats.
EK 765 departs Dubai at 14.40, arriving in Johannesburg at 20.50
The Boeing 777-300ER aircraft offers 360 seats. The cabin features 8 first class seats, 42 in business class and 310 economy class seats.

INCREASED PREMIUM CLASS OFFERINGS
By deploying a second Airbus A380 on the route Emirates will indeed be able to offer more first and business class seats to Johannesburg.
This change is significant to the Dubai-based carrier that carries passengers from across the globe, through its hub and spoke business model.
OTHER SOUTH AFRICAN ROUTES
Emirates also flies from its Dubai hub to two other cities in South Africa.
Durban is offered daily with a Boeing 777-300ER, seating 360 passengers in three classes.
Cape Town is also served twice a day with a Boeing 777-300ER aircraft, seating 360 passengers in three classes.
Both routes offer 8 seats in first class, 42 in business and 310 in economy on the Boeing 777 aircraft.
