Just weeks after receiving its first Airbus A350-1000, a second has been delivered to Ethiopia’s flag carrier.

The Addis Ababa-based carrier, which is also Africa’s largest airline, has taken delivery of its second A350-1000 aircraft from Airbus, marking yet another milestone in its fleet growth strategy.

ETHIOPIAN AIRLINES SECOND AIRBUS A350-1000

Ethiopia’s national airline announced the arrival of the aircraft, registered as ET-BAX, on 10 December, stating that this new aircraft underscores its commitment to enhancing customer service and operational excellence.

The second Airbus A350-1000 aircraft comes five weeks after the first of this type joined Ethiopian Airlines’ fleet.

BOOSTING FLIGHT OPERATIONS

This next-generation aircraft will enable Ethiopian to boost its medium and long-haul passenger flight operations.

This aircraft offers sustainability enhancements for Ethiopian, with reduced fuel consumption and thus, a lower environmental impact.

In fact, passengers will also enjoy more comfort on flights operated with the new aircraft.

“The Airbus A350-1000 is a strategic asset that enables Ethiopian to provide a superior travel experience, meet growing passenger demand, and uphold its reputation as Africa’s leading airline,” Ethiopian Airlines said.

AIRBUS SUB-FLEET

Ethiopian Airlines has several Airbus aircraft in its existing fleet.

It would appear that the airline is building a significant sub-fleet of Airbus aircraft within its fleet.

Its sub-fleet of Airbus aircraft includes several Airbus A350 family aircraft.

This comprises twenty-one A350-900s and two new A350-1000s.

In addition, the airline expects to receive two more A350-1000s in the near future.

EXPANDING ROUTE NETWORK

Ethiopian Airlines operates a large share of Africa’s passenger and cargo flights with its fleet of almost 150 aircraft.

This year, the airline has also added a number of new destinations to its ever-expanding route network.

Currently, Ethiopian flies to over 140 destinations across five continents.

FLEET EXPANSION

Ethiopian’s current fleet of almost 150 aircraft consists of Boeing 737, 777 and 787s, as well as De Havilland Q400s, Airbus A350-900s and A350-1000s.

According to Ethiopian’s Vision 2035, the airline also aims to expand its fleet to 270 aircraft.

That said, Ethiopian has already ordered 124 new aircraft.

This should therefore enable it to add many more destinations, in the future.
