Gabon’s national carrier FlyGabon will launch flights between Johannesburg and Libreville from July.
The airline will operate two rotations a week on this route.
The route will be served with an Airbus A320-200 aircraft, seating up to 142 passengers in economy and business class.
FLYGABON JOHANNESBURG FLIGHTS
FlyGabon will offer direct flights from its Libreville hub to Johannesburg from 2 July.
Johannesburg is FlyGabon’s first long-haul cross border route, according to Travel News.
FlyGabon’s General Director, Nyl Charles Moret-Mba, said that the airline chose Johannesburg as its first international destination outside of Central and West Africa due to the city’s importance as a hub for business, trade, healthcare and tourism.
FlyGabon currently operates scheduled flights to destinations in Central and West Africa. These include Port Harcourt (Nigeria), Douala (Cameroon), Brazzaville (Republic of Congo), Malabo (Equatorial Guinea) and Bangui (Central African Republic).
FlyGabon will operate the Johannesburg route twice weekly.
Libreville – Johannesburg flights will operate on Tuesdays and Fridays.
Johannesburg – Libreville flights will operate on Wednesdays and Sundays.
- Flight J7 630 will depart Libreville on Tuesdays at 14h00 and arrive in Johannesburg at 19h45. The second weekly flight on Fridays will depart Libreville at 14h30 and arrive in Johannesburg at 20h15.
- Flight J7 631 will depart Johannesburg on Wednesdays at 08h30 and arrive in Libreville at 12h15. The second weekly flight on Sundays will depart Johannesburg at 10h15 and arrive in Libreville at 14h00.
AIR GABON
Gabon’s defunct national carrier, Air Gabon, which closed in March 2006, flew between Libreville and Johannesburg.
The airline began flying to Johannesburg in late 1993.
Air Gabon offered direct services to London with a Boeing 747 aircraft.
Its international network included services from Libreville to :
Abidjan, Bamako, Bangui, Cotonou, Dakar, Douala, Geneva, Kinshasa, Johannesburg, Lagos, Lomé, Malabo, Marseille, Nice, Paris, Pointe-Noire and Rome.
