Zimbabwe’s national carrier, Air Zimbabwe, has announced the permanent addition of Mutare to its route network.
MUTARE ROUTE NOW ON AIR ZIMBABWE NETWORK
The airline briefly operated scheduled services on this route ahead of the Sanganai Hlanganani Kumbanai Tourism Expo, which took place in Mutare from 10 to 12 September.
However, Air Zimbabwe has now permanently added Mutare to its route network. The airline offers scheduled services connecting Harare, Bulawayo and Victoria Falls. It also operates flights to Johannesburg and Dar es Salaam.
Air Zimbabwe will operate the Harare Mutare service daily. The short flight is operated with a turboprop aircraft. An ATR 42 -500 is on wet-lease from Kenya-based Renegade Air.
The 48 seater aircraft is a reliable and cost-effective option for shorter routes and for airports with smaller runways.
Air Zimbabwe’s Chief Executive Officer, Edmund Makona, confirmed the viability of the route.
“This route has received an overwhelmingly positive response across the board. It has evolved from an event-specific service to a permanent arrangement, providing essential air access to the Eastern Highlands,” Makona said.
GROWING ITS ROUTE NETWORK
Air Zimbabwe is in the process of rebuilding reliable air services.
Alongside its domestic route network, the airline used to operate scheduled services to London, Frankfurt, Athens. Larnaca, Beijing, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore and Mauritius as well as a number of regional African destinations.
The permanent addition of this new route underscores Air Zimbabwe’s commitment to enhancing connectivity between tourist destinations and urban centres within Zimbabwe.
