The airline has become increasingly popular with passengers heading to and from Johannesburg from various destinations including London, Brussels and Paris.

RWANDAIR ADDS FREQUENCIES ON KIGALI JOHANNESBURG ROUTE

The airline currently offers a daily rotation between Kigali and Johannesburg.

However, from 15 June it will offer eleven flights a week on this route.

In fact, double daily services will operate on four days of the week.

MORE CAPACITY TO JOHANNESBURG

The added frequencies are due to RwandAir suspending scheduled services on some routes and having aircraft available for other routes.

The carrier said it will shift its focus East and South, following the suspension of three West African routes.

Africabeat says that this is due to ongoing political tensions with the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).

RwandAir CEO Yvonne Makolo said that the airline would reallocate resources to increase frequencies on existing East and Southern African routes as well as expanding into new destinations.

“We had to suspend some of our routes, like Brazzaville, Abuja and Cotonou because the flight time became a bit long,” Makolo said at the 13th Aviation Stakeholders Convention and the 2nd African Aviation Safety and Operations Summit, which took place in Kigali last month.

“But we are putting that capacity more on the Eastern and Southern routes in terms of additional frequencies and we are looking at opening new routes.” She said.

The airline was forced to halt operations to Brazzaville, Abuja and Cotonou after the DRC closed its airspace to all aircraft departing from Kigali.

FLIGHT SCHEDULE

Tourism Update reports that the additional flight will depart from Kigali on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Sundays. Flight WB102 will depart Kigali at 22h30 and arrive in Johannesburg at 02h20 the following morning.

Heading back to Kigali, flights depart Johannesburg on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. Flight WB103 will depart Johannesburg at 03h10 and arrive in Kigali at 07h00.
