Singapore Airlines has sent offers of compensation to the passengers who were aboard flight SQ 321 when it hit severe turbulence.
FLIGHT SQ 321
On May 21, flight SQ 321 suddenly lost altitude, dropping 6 000 feet.
The captain was forced to make an emergency landing in Bangkok, Thailand.
The incident resulted in one fatality. A passenger lost their life.
A further 22 passengers suffered spinal damage, and six suffered skull and brain injuries.
Over 100 passengers were treated for injuries.
MINOR INJURIES ON SINGAPORE AIRLINES FLIGHT SQ 321
According to The Guardian, the airline will compensate passengers who sustained minor injuries an amount of USD 10 000.
“For passengers who sustained minor injuries from the incident, we have offered US$10 000 in compensation. For those who sustained more serious injuries from the incident, we have invited them to discuss a compensation offer to meet each of their specific circumstances when they feel well and ready to do so.” Singapore Airlines said.
SERIOUS INJURIES ON FLIGHT SQ 321
Singapore Airlines has offered compensation of USD 25 000 to passengers who sustained serious injuries on flight SQ 321.
“Passengers medically assessed as having sustained serious injuries, requiring long-term medical care, and requesting financial assistance are offered an advance payment of $25 000 to address their immediate needs. This will be part of the final compensation that these passengers will receive,” confirmed the airline.
REFUNDS FOR ALL SINGAPORE AIRLINES PASSENGERS
Furthermore, Singapore Airlines said it would refund the airfares of all passengers aboard flight SQ 321 on May 21, including those who were not injured.
Also, the airline covered the medical expenses of injured passengers and arranged for family members and loved ones to be flown to Bangkok, where many of the injured received medical care.
PAYMENT TO ALL SQ 321 PASSENGERS
Furthermore, when the diverted flight landed in Bangkok, Singapore Airlines provided all passengers with one thousand Singapore Dollars. This was to help with immediate expenses.
“We provided all passengers with SGD1 000 each to meet their immediate expenses upon departure from Bangkok,” the carrier said.
Singapore Airlines has therefore adjusted inflight safety measures after the incident.
As a result, food and hot drinks will no longer be served when the aircraft hits turbulence.
