US airline, United Airlines, will introduce direct services between New York and the island of Madeira.
US AIRLINE TO FLY TO MADEIRA
The island is the birthplace of renowned soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo.
According to ThriftyTraveler no U.S. based airline has ever flown this routing nonstop, to date.
However, Azores Airlines has offered service from both Boston (BOS) and New York City (JFK) over the years.
FIRST US AIRLINE FLYING TO MADEIRA
United Airlines will offer three flights per week between New York Newark and Cristiano Ronaldo International Airport in Funchal.
The Portugal News reports that these seasonal flights will operate between June 7 and September 24, 2025.
Services will operate on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays.

BOOST FOR PORTUGAL TOURISM
Portugal’s tourism sector is set to benefit through the increased airlift from the United States of America.
The country is indeed very appealing to American nationals.
A significant number of American nationals now live in Portugal on Portuguese Golden Visas.
Places such as Madeira and the Algarve have enticed many Americans who now call Portugal home.
UNITED AIRLINES INTRODUCES FLIGHTS TO FARO
In addition, United Airlines will introduce seasonal scheduled flights between Newark and Faro in Portugal’s Algarve region.
It will also operate four weekly flights between Faro and New York from May 16th to September 22nd.
Flights will operate on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.
