Starting 30 November, Tanzania’s national carrier, Air Tanzania, will introduce flights between Dar-es-Salaam and Johannesburg.
This opens up travel opportunities for Tanzanians, South Africans and others.
AIR TANZANIA INTRODUCES JOHANNESBURG
The airline will operate five rotations a week between its hub in Dar-es-Salaam hub and Johannesburg.
The route will be operated with a Boeing 737 aircraft, offering a two-class cabin configuration.
Business Class will offer 16 seats while Economy Class will have 165 seats.
AIR TANZANIA’S JOHANNESBURG FLIGHT SCHEDULE
Dar-es-Salaam to Johannesburg:
Flight TC 208 departs Dar-es-Salaam at 11.00, arriving in Johannesburg at 13.15.
Johannesburg to Dar-es-Salaam :
Flight TC 209 departs Johannesburg at 14.15, arriving in  Dar-es-Salaam at 18.30.
Flights will be operated on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.
Block time for these flights is 3 hours and 15 minutes – on both the inbound and outbound routes.
OTHER FLIGHTS FROM JOHANNESBURG
Air Tanzania will compete with two South African carriers that will also operate scheduled flights on this route.
Airlink currently offers daily scheduled flights on this route using an Embraer E190 aircraft, seating up to 98 passengers.
In fact, South African Airways is also planning to relaunch flights between Johannesburg and Dar-es-Salaam in November.
It will operate the route with an Airbus A320 aircraft.
Furthermore, South Africa’s low-cost carrier, FlySafair, operates direct flights between Johannesburg and the island of Zanzibar.
This month, the airline also added an extra frequency, taking its Zanzibar flights to three rotations per week.

AIR TANZANIA’S GENEROUS BAGGAGE ALLOWANCE
A benefit for passengers flying with Air Tanzania includes a generous extra baggage allowance.
Passengers in Economy Class are entitled to carry two pieces of checked baggage, of up to 23 kilograms per piece.
Business Class passengers are indeed allowed to carry three pieces of checked baggage weighing up to 23 kilograms per piece.
