A decommissioned Kenya Airways Boeing 737 aircraft has arrived at Mang’u High School, near Thika, where it will be used for education and training.

In a remarkable gesture that bridges the world of aviation and education, Kenya Airways donated a disused aircraft to the top brass Mang’u High School – where it will be used to educate future generations of aviation professionals.

The donation marks a significant milestone for the school, providing students with the unique opportunity to learn about aviation with real hands-on experience and expanding their understanding of opportunities that exist in the aviation sector.
The aircraft, previously in operation with Kenya Airways had reached the end of its commercial service life.
“This aircraft, once soaring the skies, now begins a new chapter as a learning resource to inspire and equip future aviators, engineers, and innovators,” said Hellen Mathuka, Kenya Airways Chief Strategy and Innovation Officer.
Transporting the disused Boeing 737, from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) via the Eastern Bypass and Thika Road was quite an exercise.
Tuko reports that Motorists were advised to exercise caution during the morning transportation of the abnormal load.
CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY
The decision was inspired by Kenya Airways’ commitment to corporate social responsibility and its commitment to education.
Instead of being decommissioned and dismantled, the airline chose to donate it to Mang’u High School, ensuring that it would continue to serve a purpose – this time, as a tool for future aviation professionals.
Like Ethiopian Airlines, which invests in the education of aviation professionals, Kenya Airways also hopes to inspire and educate the youth.
By repurposing the aircraft for training, Kenya Airways aims to create real-world opportunities for students pursuing careers in aviation while contributing to the nation’s aviation sector by fostering skilled talent.
INVESTING IN AVIATION
Celebrating 100 years of educating the youth, Mang’u High School now benefits from the Kenya Airways’ Wings Of Innovation project.
Founded in 1925, the school has a rich history of fostering academic and professional excellence.
Kenya Airways’ donation of the aircraft to Mang’u High School represented a strategic and visionary investment in the next generation of aviation professionals.
For students at the school, the aircraft represents a groundbreaking shift in their education.
Students thus stand to benefit from hands-on training for various careers in aviation.
Aviation theory will now be complemented by the invaluable experience of working with actual aircraft components, enabling students to apply classroom knowledge in a tangible and practical environment.
For the airline, donating the disused aircraft also serves as an eco-friendly and responsible solution.
It aligns with sustainability initiatives by preventing the aircraft from being broken down and discarded, instead allowing it to contribute to the education and professional development of the next generation of aviation experts.
