South Africa’s Lift Airline is known for doing this differently.
The airline recently flew a search and rescue animal to Cape Town, to assist in locating a missing hiker.
CANINE RESCUE MISSION
An 11-year-old German Shorthaired Pointer, named Sage was deployed in Cape Town to assist in locating a missing hiker.
On Thursday 14 March, Sage successfully located a missing hiker in the Western Cape’s Helderberg Nature Reserve, in the dark.
Lift says it is proud to have assisted in getting the rescue animal safely to and from Cape Town, for the rescue mission.
K9 SEARCH AND RESCUE ASSOCIATION
The K9 Search and Rescue Association of South Africa (K9SARA-SA) was founded in December 1998 when a few members of the Mountain Club’s Wilderness Search and Rescue team, realized that dogs are a valuable resource on any search.
Having a trained team of search dogs available at short notice helps to cut down on the time needed to find a missing person.
RESCUE OPERATIONS
K9SARA-SA is a volunteer organization that trains dogs for search and rescue work.
It has units in Gauteng, Western Cape and Kwa-Zulu Natal. However, all of its units operate nationally.
All dog handlers supply their own equipment and pay their own transport costs to the training sites and rescues.
