Effectively, this means that the airlines from both countries will be able to operate flights into more than just the capital cities in each country.

This stands to benefit not only the people, the airlines and the economies of both countries, but also foreign tourists and investors.

MOZAMBIQUE AND ANGOLA

Mozambique’s flag carrier, Linhas Aereas de Mozambique (LAM) is allowed to fly from its home base to various destinations in Angola.

In addition, the same will apply to Angola’s national carrier, Linhas Aereas de Angola (TAAG).

COOPERATION IN AVIATION

According to João de Abreu, President of the Mozambique Civil Aviation Institute (IACM), under the memorandum, Linhas Aéreas de Moçambique (LAM) will be able to extend its flights beyond the Angolan capital Luanda and fly to other provincial capitals.

Linhas Aéreas de Angola (TAAG), will also have the freedom to operate its flights to more locations in Mozambique.

“There will be no problems if one day TAAG wants to fly to Beira or Pemba, and reciprocally, there will be no problems if we want to fly to one of the major airports that exists now.”

AVIATION COOPERATION AGREEMENT SIGNED

The agreement will enable both airlines to explore more destinations, to meet the growing demand and boost economic development between the two countries.

Beyond their strong links with Portugal and belonging to the Southern African Development Community (SADC), both countries have growing economies.

FLIGHT SHARING

ClubofMozambique reports that the agreement will also enable improved and expanded reach for passengers.

Amélia Kuvíngua, PCA of the Angolan National Civil Aviation Authority (ANAC), stated that the signed document formalizes the sharing of flights between passengers of the two operators heading to some points in Africa or the rest of the world, where one or the other company is operating.

ENHANCED COOPERATION

The agreement sets out the terms and conditions under which the parties can expand and deepen technical cooperation and knowledge exchange and best practices regarding the development, modernization, operation, and maintenance of the civil aviation system of both countries.

This helps both airlines improve financial sustainability and ultimately will also help to reduce environmental impacts.

“The aviation authorities of the two countries are working in line with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) policy, not allowing any country to be left behind. With this cooperation, we will complement each other and fill existing gaps.”
