FlyNamibia resumes flights to Namibian coastal town, Luderitz

FlyNamibia has restarted flights between Windhoek Eros Airport and the town of Luderitz, after suspending the service in January this year.

CONNECTING A COASTAL OUTPOST

The restoration of this service is important for the town which is situated far away from the country’s capital.

The distance between the two destinations is around 500 kilometres.

Furthermore, the town is attempting to lure tourists to the area, with its waterfront development.

FLYNAMIBIA SUSPENDED LUDERITZ FLIGHTS

Flights to Lüderitz were suspended by the airline in January owing to safety concerns.  

The airport experienced mechanical issues with its fire and rescue services, forcing airlines to halt flights.    

The reinstatement of adequate fire and rescue services has indeed been made possible through FlyNamibia’s partnership with TotalEnergies.

FLYNAMIBIA RESUMES LUDERITZ FLIGHTS

This route is in fact now being operated five times a week.

Flights are offered on weekdays only. Services were reintroduced on October 16.  

Flight WV541 departs Windhoek Eros Airport at 07.15 and arrives in Lüderitz at 08.05.  

Flight WV542 departs Lüderitz at 12.15 and arrives back in Windhoek at 13.05.

LUDERITZ: A COASTAL DESERT TOWN

Lüderitz is a town in the ǁKaras Region of southern Namibia.

In fact, it is a port town developed around Robert Harbour and Shark Island.

The town lies on one of the least hospitable coasts in Africa.

It is indeed known for its colonial architecture, including some interesting art nouveau designs.

It is also known for wildlife including seals, penguins, flamingos and ostriches.

Lüderitz is home to interesting museums and lies at the end of a decommissioned railway line to Keetmanshoop.

The town is named after Adolf Lüderitz, founder of the German South West Africa colony.
