Kenya’s flag carrier, Kenya Airways has introduced a digital sustainability training module for all employees.
Avihub Network says this digital training is available to all employees, ensuring that sustainability knowledge is shared across all levels.
SUSTAINABLE AVIATION
Sustainable aviation is a buzzword at the moment, with the urgent need to contain global warming.
Aviation accounts for around 2 percent of non-natural carbon emissions.
Several measures are proposed to mitigate aviation’s impact, but the primary ones include the use of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) and the use of energy-efficient next-generation aircraft.
Then, operations and processes in aviation can also be enhanced to improve sustainability. This is where staff contributions are valuable.

SUSTAINABLE AVIATION TRAINING AT KENYA AIRWAYS
Launched on 1 September, this digital training initiative is part of Kenya Airways’ goal to lead the continent in sustainable aviation.
The airline is thus taking significant steps by analyzing sustainability performance data, empowering partners to do the same, and ensuring that everyone from board members to ground staff undergoes sustainability training.
KENYA AIRWAYS SUSTAINABILITY CHAMPIONS
Kenya Airways has been working hard to weave sustainability into every facet of its operations.
Behind the scenes, 118 dedicated employees, known as Sustainability Champions, have been driving these changes across all departments since January 2024.
Staff are very well-placed to notice where sustainability is lacking and where action can be taken to enhance it.
COMPANY-WIDE COLLABORATION
These champions are in fact not just doing their jobs, they are working to change the airline’s processes.
They must indeed constantly ask themselves how they can reduce waste, improve efficiency, and make operations more sustainable.
Their efforts range from data analysis to decision-making and reporting, ensuring that sustainability is at the core of everything Kenya Airways does.
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT
The airline has also undertaken its first-ever flight under The Sky Team Aviation Challenge (TAC), a groundbreaking initiative aimed at making air travel more sustainable.
The flight’s destination was Amsterdam. However, the real journey lies in achieving cleaner skies and a healthier planet.
