Lufthansa will operate additional flights to Cape Town due to a spike in passenger demand for flights.
With so many passengers being stranded in Southeast Asia, due to the airspace closures in the Middle East, Cape Town is providing a lifeline for passengers who are using connecting to their final destinations via the city.
The conflict with Iran has resulted in numerous airlines, particularly those operating out of hubs in the Middle East having to cancel scheduled services due to airspace closures. This has left many passengers stranded in different locations.
Cities in Southeast Asia are feeling the impact, as many international travellers fly to the region using Middle East-based airlines.
CAPE TOWN OFFERS SOLUTIONS
Some stranded travellers are choosing to forfeit their existing flight tickets, which often come with significant wait times before these airlines may be used.
Thus, several travellers are resorting to buying new tickets with other airlines on alternate routes. This translates into increased demand for carriers that can offer solutions to stranded passengers.
Interestingly, Cape Town has seen increased numbers of passengers, due to its direct links with Singapore. Singapore Airlines flies to the city.
Travelling with Singapore Airlines to Cape Town opens up possibilities for passengers to continue to other destinations.
Cape Town has direct flights to Europe, the United States, South America and a number of destinations in Africa.
The city offers flights operated by various Star Alliance member airlines including Lufthansa, Swiss, United, South African Airways and Ethiopian Airlines.
ADDITIONAL LUFTHANSA FLIGHTS
Due to a rise in demand for long-haul flights at short notice, airlines of the Lufthansa Group will offer numerous additional flights, particularly to Asia and Africa.
Lufthansa plans to operate several extra flights at short notice in the coming weeks.
The airline will operate two extra services between Frankfurt and Cape Town.
It will also provide four extra flights between Munich and Singapore.
Austrian Airlines has also announced additional services to accommodate stranded passengers. The carrier will operate 10 special flights between Vienna and Bangkok.
To assist passengers, these additional services are now available through Lufthansa’s distribution channels.
