Milan Malpensa is set to become known as Silvio Berlusconi Airport.

The change comes as a result of Italian Transport Minister Matteo Salvini announcing that Milan Malpensa Airport is to be renamed in honour of former Italian prime minister Silvio Berlusconi.

Milan Malpensa Airport is the largest international airport in northern Italy.

HONOURING SILVIO BERLUSCONI
During a meeting held in Salvini, Italy, the leader of Italy’s rightist League party – coincidentally, also an ally of the late Berlusconi, revealed that the Lombardy region, which includes the city of Milan had received approval from the Italian civil aviation authority for renaming the major airport.
Milan Malpensa Airport is set to be renamed in former prime minister Silvio Berlusconi’s honor.

Berlusconi was born in Italy’s financial centre, Milan.
He became a prominent and controversial figure in modern Italian politics, during his tenure as Italy’s prime minister.
FOUR TERMS OF OFFICE
The Italian statesman led four governments – as the prime minister of Italy during the period, 1994 to 2011.
Moreover, Berlusconi still headed the centre-right Forza Italia party before his death last year.
Berlusconi was 86 at the time of his death.
