South Africa’s national carrier, SAA, will introduce various new domestic and regional flight routes.
Speaking at Africa’s Travel Indaba 2025, SAA’s Interim Chief Commercial Officer, Tebogo Tsimane said that the airline has route expansion plans.
The restructured airline resumed commercial flights in 2021, with just a handful of routes.
However, South African Airways now operates services on over 17 routes – domestic, regional and intercontinental.
The airline, which relaunched scheduled flights in 2021 with just one domestic route (Johannesburg – Cape Town), has now resumed flights between Johannesburg and Durban as well as between Johannesburg and Port Elizabeth.
The carrier intends to return to the coastal cities of George and East London.
Furthermore, it will relaunch flights between Durban and Cape Town.
Johannesburg – George flights will resume in April 2026. The Johannesburg – East London and Cape Town – Durban services will however, be announced in due course.
NEW SAA FLIGHT ROUTES
SAA has two cross-border routes on the radar. It intends to start flying between Johannesburg and Gaborone (Botswana). This service will begin in October this year.
The airline will also introduce a seasonal flight between Cape Town and Mauritius.
This route will commence in November this year.
Mauritius is a popular holiday destination for South Africans. There is a significant number of South African expats living on the island.
The introduction of this seasonal service will also benefit the tourism sectors of both destinations.
Both Cape Town and Mauritius are popular tourism destinations for visitors from Europe and beyond.
