Uganda Airlines has extended its Airbus A320 lease with aircraft lessor, DAT Lithuanian Airlines, for a period of one year.
This will enable Uganda Airlines to maintain its flight schedule with improved operational efficiency.
UGANDA AIRLINES AIRBUS A320 LEASE
DAT Lithuanian Airlines leases an Airbus A320 aircraft to Uganda’s national carrier.
In fact, this wet-lease agreement came into place after Uganda Airlines ended its lease agreement with Johannesburg-based Global Airways in October last year.
DAT Lithuanian Airlines thus leases a nine year old Airbus A320 aircraft seating up to 156 passengers to Uganda Airlines.
This mid-range aircraft is deployed on several routes in Uganda Airlines’ route network. This also includes Nairobi, Lagos, Abuja and Johannesburg.
During this period, three DAT crews will be stationed in Entebbe, Uganda. These crews will typically rotate on a three-week schedule.
DAMP LEASE AGREEMENT
In about two months’ time, the current wet lease arrangement is expected to transition into a semi-damp lease.
This will mean that DAT will provide the A320 aircraft with a partial complement of crew, as opposed to a full crew.
DAT crew based in Entebbe will benefit from Uganda Airlines’ new direct flights between Entebbe and London Gatwick. This new route is operated with a wide-body Airbus A330-800 neo aircraft.
Uganda Airlines, which this week launched scheduled services to London’s Gatwick Airport, has been named the airline with the youngest fleet on the African continent.
The airline’s fleet is comprised of two Airbus A330-800s and four CRJ900LRs.
