The opening of the new Comac offices – one in Hong Kong and the other in Singapore – is a step forward for the Chinese aircraft manufacturer, who is intent on expansion.

Comac Board Director Tan Wangeng said, “We hope to foster innovation and progress in the global aviation sector.”

TWO NEW COMAC OFFICES IN ASIA

On 28 October Comac opened its Asia-Pacific Office in Singapore.

This new office is set to be a regional base for sales and technical support, aiming to introduce ARJ21 and C919 aircraft to airline operators in Southeast Asia.

Then on 30 October, the company opened the doors to a new customer service office based in Hong Kong.

GROWING INTEREST IN COMAC AIRCRAFT

The Chinese aircraft producer’s influence in Hong Kong and Singapore has garnered interest in the last year.

In December 2023, Comac showcased its C919 aircraft in a flight demonstration over Hong Kong’s Victoria Harbour.

Then in February this year, Comac’s C919 and ARJ21 aircraft were on display at the Singapore Airshow.

In addition, both aircraft performed flight demonstrations, showcasing the aircraft to potential customers at the show.

Comac’s new Singapore office thus helps to position Comac’s aircraft as real options for airline operators in the region.

REGIONAL INTENTIONS

As aircraft manufacturers seek to enhance their presence in markets where demand for new aircraft exists, companies like Comac are opening offices and customer service centres.

Airbus also recently announced the establishment of an office in South Africa.

With these new regional offices Comac intends to offer a support network for operators of its aircraft in Southeast Asia.

The offices will also provide customer service, technical support, and market outreach in the region. The Southeast Asian market is key to Comac’s international strategy.

COMAC C919

The C919 is designed to directly compete with established models like the Boeing 737 and the Airbus A320.

The model is currently in service with three Chinese airlines including Air China, China Southern and China Eastern Airlines.

With a standard range of 4,075 to 5,555 kilometres, the C919 can comfortably accommodate 158 to 168 passengers.

The C919 is designed for short- to medium-haul routes and aims to offer comparable fuel efficiency, passenger capacity, and operating costs.

COMAC ARJ21

The ARJ21 is the first short-medium-range turbofan regional aircraft independently developed by China in accordance with international civil aviation regulations.

This aircraft has a layout of 78 to 97 seats and a range of 2,225 to 3,700 kilometres.

China’s aircraft manufacturer currently has one overseas operator of this model.

TransNusa Airlines in Indonesia operates three ARJ21 aircraft.
