Discover will launch scheduled flights between Munich and Windhoek next year.
Lufthansa’s leisure airline, Discover Airlines, will commence direct services from Munich to the Namibian capital next April.
The scheduled service will benefit travellers between Germany and Namibia.
DISCOVER WINDHOEK FLIGHTS
Travel News reports that the service will start on 1 April next year.
The route will operate year-round on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.
Flights will be operated with a widebody Airbus A330 aircraft.
ADDITIONAL WINDHOEK FLIGHTS FOR DISCOVER
This is not Discover’s first foray into Namibia.
The Lufthansa Group airline also offers flights between Frankfurt and Windhoek.
This route is operated daily with an Airbus A330-300 aircraft.
Flights operate as overnight services on both the northbound and southbound routes.
DISCOVER EXPANSION IN AFRICA
Discover’s new Munich – Windhoek service is part of its expanded focus on African destinations.
These new flights will position Discover – which was formerly known as Eurowings Discover – as the only carrier offering direct flights between Munich and Windhoek.
The Lufthansa Group leisure airline offers flights to various African destinations.
This includes Mauritius, Victoria Falls, Mombasa, Zanzibar, and Kilimanjaro.
GROWTH IN NAMIBIAN AIRLIFT
Namibia has seen increased airlift in recent months.
This is thanks to the launch of new services by carriers such as Air Botswana and budget carrier FlySafair.
South African Airways has also ramped up frequencies into Namibia’s capital.

FACILITATING TOURISM
The additional flights enable improved connectivity for travellers to Namibia, which is a desirable tourist destination.
Namibia is home to the world’s oldest desert, the Namib Desert.
This desert is in fact estimated to be between 55 and 80 million years old.
Private Namibian airline, FlyNamibia, has also restarted flights between Windhoek Eros Airport and the town of Luderitz.
