Italy’s national carrier ITA Airways will launch seasonal services between Italy and the Indian Ocean Island of Mauritius.

The Italian flag carrier is thus expanding its presence in Africa as well as in the Indian Ocean region.
ITA AIRWAYS ROUTE NETWORK EXPANSION
The airline, which officially became a member of the Lufthansa Group of Airlines last month, has announced that it will launch flights to a second destination in the Indian Ocean.
The launch of this new flight represents intercontinental route expansion for ITA Airways.
The airline currently operates scheduled services to a handful of destinations in Africa and the Indian Ocean region.
In Africa, ITA flies to Accra, Dakar, Cairo, Algiers, Tunis and also to Tripoli.
In addition, it operates services to Male (Maldives) in the Indian Ocean.
Thus, Mauritius will be the carrier’s second destination in the Indian Ocean region.
Mauritius is an important destination for leisure travellers and holidaymakers from all over the globe.
The island is also a favourable destination for holidaymakers from Europe during the Northern Hemisphere winter.
In fact, Italy was Mauritius’ eighth-largest tourism source market in 2024.
It accounted for over 29 000 tourists (or 2.1% of the country’s overall arrivals).
