South African Airways enhances its flight schedule

South African Airways (SAA) has improved its flight schedule, to enable better connectivity for passengers.

The airline’s enhanced flight schedule means more options, improved connections, and ultimately, a better journey for passengers on SAA flights.

SOUTH AFRICAN AIRWAYS FLIGHTS

Since its relaunch in September 2021, with just a handful of destinations, South African Airways has been gradually rebuilding its route network.

The airline offers scheduled services from its hub at Johannesburg’s OR Tambo International Airport to several destinations.

It also operates one international route out of Cape Town International Airport.

From Johannesburg, it offers :

DOMESTIC FLIGHTS

Cape Town – Multiple daily frequencies

Durban – Multiple daily frequencies

Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth) – Three daily flights

REGIONAL FLIGHTS

Harare – Twelve weekly flights

Victoria Falls – Daily flights

Dar Es Salaam – Daily flights

Lusaka – Twelve weekly flights

Kinshasa – Five flights a week

Lubumbashi – Five flights a week

Accra – Four weekly flights

Abidjan – three weekly flights

Lagos – Four weekly flights

Mauritius – Daily flights

INTERCONTINENTAL FLIGHTS

Perth – Five flights a week

Sao Paulo – Two flights a week

South African Airways also operates two weekly services between Cape Town International Airport and Sao Paulo.

ENHANCED FLIGHT SCHEDULE

The extra frequencies and improved SAA flight schedule have indeed been made possible by improved flight scheduling as well as the arrival of additional aircraft.

Last month South African Airways took delivery of two Airbus A320 aircraft, enabling it to expand its flight schedule.

Aviationweek reports that these aircraft are on lease from aircraft lessor, AerCap.

The South African Airways fleet now comprises a total of 20 aircraft.

This is almost half the size of SAA’s operational fleet in 2020 – before the airline was grounded due to the restrictions implemented to mitigate the spread of the Covid-19 virus.

Prior to suspending its flights in March 2020, South African Airways had a total of 49 aircraft in its fleet.
