The service will connect three of Africa’s prime tourist destinations: Rwanda (known for safaris and gorilla expeditions) with Mombasa and Zanzibar (known for beaches).

From December 1, RwandAir will commence four weekly flights to Zanzibar and Mombasa.

That said, this service will operate as a triangular route.

On Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays, flights will depart Kigali at 09.30 and arrive in Zanzibar at 13.00. The flight will depart Zanzibar at 13.40 and arrive in Mombasa at 14.35.

The return flight will depart Mombasa on the same days at 17.00 and arrive in Zanzibar at 17.55. The flight will then depart Zanzibar at 18.40 and arrive in Kigali at 20.10.

These routes are possible due to RwandAir suspending scheduled services on some routes and having aircraft available for other routes.

Earlier this year, RwandAir said it will shift its focus East and South, following the suspension of three West African routes.

The airline was forced to halt operations to Brazzaville, Abuja and Cotonou after the DRC closed its airspace to all aircraft departing from Kigali. This was due to ongoing political tensions with the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).

RwandAir has also increased frequencies on other routes including between Kigali and Johannesburg.
