Low-cost carrier FlySafair is celebrating its tenth year of operations this week. FlySafair launched operations a decade ago, on 16 October 2014.

The budget carrier started flying with just two aircraft, operating only one route. Initially, flights were operated between Johannesburg and Cape Town.
On its first day, FlySafair operated 8 flights between Johannesburg and Cape Town, moving a total of 984 passengers.
The airline had a staff count of around 250 employees back in 2014.
A 10-YEAR JOURNEY
That said, FlySafair has grown into one of Africa’s best-loved airlines.
The airline no longer operates just domestic flight services. The International Air Services Council of South Africa approved various new international routes for the budget carrier.
FlySafair now operates 34 aircraft on its route network comprising 22 routes. Its fleet is made up entirely of Boeing 737 aircraft.
The company employs almost 2000 staff members and operates an average of 150 scheduled flights per day.
The carrier has carried over 36 million passengers in its ten years of operations.
Furthermore, in October 2022, the airline went through a rebrand with redesigns to its logo and livery.
FLYSAFAIR CONNECTS SOUTHERN AFRICA
The airline values its passengers and them for helping it to reach this milestone.
“It’s our official birthday week! Wednesday 16 October will mark 1 decade of flying high and with heart. And wow, has it been an amazing journey. One that we couldn’t have done without you, our valued customers—thank you for choosing us to connect you with the places and faces you love most.” FlySafair said.
FlySafair also thanks its dedicated staff for helping it to achieve this major milestone.
“And to our 2000 committed staff who, over the years, have helped us grow from having just 2 aircraft and 1 route between Joburg and Cape Town, to now operating 5000 flights a month between 13 destinations, realising our dream to become the largest low-cost carrier in Southern Africa.” The airline said.
FLYSAFAIR’S EXPANSION
FlySafair has launched three new routes this year.
In April it introduced flights between Kruger and Cape Town. Then in August, it launched Johannesburg Kruger flights.
On 22 October it will start flying between Cape Town and Windhoek in Namibia.
This will be its first international route out of Cape Town.
