South Africa’s low-cost airline, FlySafair, has been rated Africa’s best low-cost carrier for 2025 in the annual Skytrax World Airline Awards.

This is in fact, the fourth time the budget airline has been awarded this title.
AFRICA’S BEST LOW-COST CARRIER 2025: FLYSAFAIR
The airline, which launched in October 2014 with just domestic routes, has grown tremendously in its first decade of operations.
FlySafair has grown from operating a handful of domestic routes, to an airline that offers both domestic and regional services.
The airline now operates flights out of most major urban centres in South Africa, including Johannesburg, Durban, Cape Town, George, East London, Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth), Bloemfontein and Nelspruit with its fleet of Boeing 737 aircraft.
The Johannesburg-based airline also offers scheduled cross-border flights to destinations outside of South Africa.
It provides flights to Harare, Victoria Falls, Windhoek, Zanzibar and Mauritius. From Johannesburg it flies to Harare, Victoria Falls, Zanzibar and Mauritius.
And, last year it launched its first international service from its Cape Town hub.
The airline started flying between the mother city and Namibia’s capital, Windhoek, in October last year.
UPLIFTING SOUTH AFRICA
The budget airline is proudly South African.
It contributes to upliftment of the nation with initiatives such as its School Booster Programme, where it gives away return tickets to educational institutions. This is to help educational institutions attend events around South Africa.
This year it gave away ten return domestic flight tickets to ten schools, to the value of R690 000.
